A week of colour and fun in Eira’s 2nd class!!

Published by Broombridge ETNS on

Lots of fun, creativity and learning took place this week in 2nd class.

To mark the fact that the season of Spring has officially sprung around Broombridge, 2nd class created beautiful daffodil artwork. They learned that a daffodil is a member of the Narcissus family.

As part of Seachtain na Gaeilge, the children were rewarded with €2 coins every time they used a phrase or word as Gaeilge throughout the week. These coins will contribute to a lovely prize from Patrick next Wednesday. In preparation for Lá Glas, 2nd class began practicing singing Trasna na dTonnta and learning how to dance to The Siege of Ennis. They also enjoyed some mindfulness meditation as Gaeilge and had some fun learning about An Gruagaire (The Hairdressers) and all of the different types of hair.

Each child in 2nd class learned a new skill of using a dictionary to find definitions when they are unsure of what a word means.

Finally, 2nd class celebrated International Women’s Day on 8th March. They discussed why we have this celebration and how the rights of women have changed throughout time. They took inspiration from a female artist for this week’s Visual Arts lesson. The children created geometric patterns inspired by the work of South African artist Esther Mahlangu.
