November: Peace
This month, our Core Value was Peace. In our classes, we talked about what peace looks and feels like to us. We explored ways to make our classrooms and school feel more peaceful at times. Our Infant classes also read a story about how to say peace in lots of different languages. Some classes also enjoyed trying yoga this month.
Peace is…
- Feeling safe and secure
- Relaxing and feeling calm
- Being quiet and still
- Everyone getting along
As part of our Belief Systems strand, we have been learning about different aspects of Hinduism. Junior and Senior Infants have been reading stories about Diwali and how it is celebrated. Our older classes have been looking at Hindu symbols and their meanings. 1st and 2nd Class have also been exploring the Jewish celebration of Hanukkah and ways in which families may celebrate it.
In November, we marked Anti-Bullying Day. Paddy came around to all of the classes and spoke about bullying. With each class, Paddy explained our ‘Bully Free Starts With Me’ message. All classes learned this phrase and we also discussed it as a whole school at our virtual assembly. Children from 3rd Class learned a rap about bullying and performed it for the whole school. Some older classes also made brilliant posters to display around the school.
