Sandwich Making in the Language Room!
Last week, groups of children from Junior Infants classes made their own sandwiches using some of the language skills we’ve been working on recently. They practiced sequencing stories using the words ‘first’, ‘next’ and ‘last’. They learned action words through miming activities like ‘Simon Says’. They built vocabulary about food through stories and word games. They brought together all these skills to write and draw a simple procedure ‘how to make a sandwich’. We were very happy to be joined by some of our older language learners who got in on the action too! They gave step by step instructions and kindly helped us with cleaning, preparing ingredients and assembling sandwiches! We made sure to sanitize our hands to keep our bodies safe and healthy. There was lots of chat about favourite sandwiches and some funny ideas about yucky sandwiches too! The children chose from different ingredients including bread, butter, cheese, ham, lettuce, tomatoes, ketchup, bananas and jam to create sandwiches worthy of masterchef!
